Let’s start with some good news.
You don’t need to be confident, outgoing, or comfortable speaking in front of a crowd to have a beautiful wedding ceremony.
In fact, one of the most common things I hear is, “I’m really not looking forward to standing up in front of everyone.”
If that sounds familiar, you’re certainly not alone.
Many people worry they’ll forget their words, trip over their vows, or suddenly freeze with dozens of eyes looking their way. But here’s the thing: your wedding ceremony isn’t a performance. Nobody is expecting perfection.
Your guests aren’t judging how well you speak.
They’re simply delighted to be sharing the moment with you.
There are plenty of ways to make things feel easier. You can keep your vows short and simple. You can read them from a card or vow book rather than memorising them. You can even choose to repeat vows after your celebrant if that feels more comfortable.
One of the biggest confidence boosters is preparation. Reading your vows aloud a few times beforehand can make a huge difference. What feels unfamiliar on paper soon starts to feel natural.
As celebrants, we’re also there to support you. We guide the ceremony, help set the pace, and create a relaxed atmosphere so you’re never left wondering what comes next. Most couples are surprised by how quickly their nerves settle once the ceremony begins.
And remember, a little emotion is not a problem to solve. If your voice wobbles, if you laugh, or if you need a moment to compose yourself, that’s not something going wrong. It’s a sign that the moment matters.
The truth is, some of the most touching ceremonies I’ve led have involved couples who were convinced they hated public speaking.
You don’t need to become a confident speaker overnight.
You just need to show up, be yourselves, and focus on the person standing in front of you.
We’ll help with the rest.
